AFSP (American Foundation for Suicide Prevention) San Francisco

The Greater San Francisco Bay Area Chapter is active throughout the year with educational, programmatic, and outreach activities as well as the 7 Out of the Darkness Community Walks each fall & more than 10 Survivor Day sites each November.

The grassroots work they do focuses on eliminating the loss of life from suicide by: delivering innovative prevention programs, educating the public about risk factors and warning signs, raising funds for suicide research and programs, and reaching out to those individuals who have lost someone to suicide.

San Francisco Suicide Prevention

San Francisco Suicide Prevention is the oldest community-based telephone crisis center in the United States, founded in 1962 by Bernard Mayes.  To this day, the agency trains local volunteers who provide suicide prevention and crisis intervention services to callers, and over 500 other crisis centers across the United States now utilize the same concept.

NYC Well

A staff of trained mental health professionals that can help callers find the most appropriate mental health and substance abuse services for their needs. Services include counseling, suicide prevention, crisis intervention, peer support, referrals to care, assistance in connecting to the referral, and follow-up services. NYC Well is free and confidential and operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week via phone, text, and internet chat. NYC Well is multilingual and multicultural.

NAMI New York State

NAMI-NYS is the state organization of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the nation’s largest grassroots organization for people with mental illness and their families. Founded in 1979, NAMI has affiliates in every state and in more than 1,100 local communities across the country.
